Young Felipe Augusto left Corinthians at the end of the last season. The player was transferred to Cercle Brugge in Belgium.
The athlete is starting to stand out in the Belgian team. Throughout his career, Felipe Augusto has always played as a center-forward. But the situation has changed in Europe. The player started to gain more space as an attacking midfielder, playing behind the team’s center-forward. Currently, Felipe is the number 10 for Cercle Brugge.

“It’s really crazy. When you talk about a midfielder, even I stop to think about how different it is. I had trained at Corinthians before, but had never played. I didn’t have that opportunity at Corinthians, in Brazil. I came here, they evaluated me, saw my training, my quality. Here the game is very vertical, you know? And the midfielder is a guy who is always close to the number nine, always there,” said Felipe in an interview with Gazeta Esportiva.
“They evaluated my training, my qualities, and that’s when they had the idea. We had a meeting and they asked me what I thought about it. I agreed, I’m a guy who always wants to be on the field, wants to learn, grow. I saw it as an opportunity to be on the field, to learn a new role. It could only add to my career. I played in games in this position and did well, with good performances,” he explained.
Even in Europe, Felipe Augusto has been following Corinthians’ situation. With the Corinthians professional team, Felipe Augusto played 29 matches. The player lost space in the second half of 2023 after Mano Menezes arrived at the alvinegro club.
“It was eight years at Corinthians, of course, I have many friends there. I always talk to them. Of course, there’s the time difference, games in Brazil are very late here. But whenever I can, I’m following, watching, talking to the friends I made there,” he revealed.
“As someone who grew up in the club, lived there, I couldn’t just come here and forget about it. Whenever I can, I follow and talk to my friends,” he continued.
The player also recalled the troubled year Corinthians had last season. The team even fought to avoid relegation in the Brazilian Championship.
“Collectively, it’s hard to say something. It was a year of many transitions, you know? Of coach, squad changes, we had many important injuries in the team throughout the year. For Corinthians’ size, when you’re not fighting for titles, of course, it’s a bad year, terrible,” he analyzed.
“Corinthians always has to fight for titles. When you have four, five coaches, it’s complicated. There’s a lot of turnover. One coach wants one thing, then the other doesn’t like that, another wants something else. This, along with the injuries we had, made it difficult for the team to achieve good results,” he concluded.
