Fernando Diniz was fired as Fluminense’s coach following the derby loss against Flamengo, which further sank the team to the bottom of the Brasileirão. After the news broke, several key players took to social media to bid farewell to the manager.

One of them was forward Germán Cano, who posted two photos on his Instagram stories with Diniz along with the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana trophies. “Thank you for everything, professor (FRIEND),” wrote the Argentine striker.

Another star who made sure to leave his message for Diniz was none other than Marcelo, who wrote the following on his X (Twitter) and Instagram accounts: “Professor, thank you very much for the teachings, you made me see football in a different way. I am very happy to have worked with you before I stopped playing football. We lived incredible moments, and I gained a friend for LIFE. THANK YOU!”

Felipe Melo also shared a photo with the head coach, whom he described as an “idol” and added that their friendship “transcends football.”

John Kennedy, who scored the goal that gave Flu their first Libertadores title in 2023, wrote: “Thank you for everything, boss. I have enormous admiration for you.”

Colombian Jhon Arias, meanwhile, left his message of gratitude to Diniz for believing in him to strengthen the squad: “Thank you, Fernando, for being the first person at the club who really believed in me and my work. Thank you for everything you did for me and the club. Thank you for being like family to me. Thank you for seeing things that only you managed to see; you were a blessing in my life. We will meet again in the world of football. Thank you for everything!”

With Marcão taking over on an interim basis, Fluminense will be looking to get back to winning ways on Thursday (27) when they host Vitória on matchday 12 of the 2024 Brasileirão. Flu are currently bottom of the standings, three points shy from the 16th spot.
