Fluminense Back to the Bottom of the Brazilian Championship After Almost 15 Years

  • Fluminense confirms the bottom position of the Brazilian Championship after the tenth round;
  • The last time the Tricolor occupied the 20th position was in 2009, in the final stretch of a season marked by a fight against relegation;
  • Currently, the team balances performance in the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil with negative results in the Brazilian Championship.

More than a decade later

The bottom position of the national competition had not been occupied by Fluminense since the 32nd round of 2009, in a season remembered for an impressive recovery against relegation, according to data from Espião Estatístico.

On that occasion, the team rose to the 19th position in the 33rd round by defeating Cruzeiro 3-2 away from home. Permanence in the elite was assured in the last match of the campaign, with a 1-1 draw against Coritiba.

Current season

In contrast, the current season shows an uneven performance of the club, which maintains participation in the round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil, but suffers from poor results in the Brazilian Championship. In recent games, Fluminense has accumulated three consecutive defeats, including a comeback loss in the final minutes against Atlético-GO at the Maracanã.
