Fluminense announced on Monday afternoon that Odair Hellman will be stepping down from his role as head coach after receiving an offer from Al-Wasl that he couldn’t turn down. Hellmann and his assistant, Mauricio Dulac would be headed to the United Arab Emirates for a new challenge.
Fluminense also announced that Marcão, who was the club’s technical assistant and U-23 manager for a while,
will manage the team until the completion of the season which ends in February next year.
Marcão has already taken over training responsibilities starting Tuesday and will be on the sidelines when Fluminense take on Vasco in the Brazilian Championship on Sunday.
Through a statement on their website, Fluminense announced the quotes from Odair Hellmann and why he decided to call it quits with the club.
“With the same respect and attention directed to me in the last 12 months, I come through this to officially announce my farewell to the Fluminense Football Club.”
“In view of the formalization of an irrefutable proposal from Al Wasl SC (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), I communicated to the FFC board, with whom I always had the best dialogue, which responded positively to the invitation to take over the technical command of the Arab team. In a personal decision, I decided to start a new challenge and a new career and life project.”
In his 50 games in charge of Fluminense, Hellmann saw 24 wins, 14 losses and 12 stalemates which accounts to a 56% win rate. In that time, Flu scored 75 goals and shipped in 47 which was pretty decent as well. Under his tutelage, Fluminense also won the Copa Rio.
