In a result not many would have expected, Atlético-MG and Fluminense shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
With International having lost their game and Flamengo playing out to a draw, Atletico-MG had the chance to move to within three points off the top of the table. The same could be said for Fluminense who also had the chance to go level on points with fourth-place São Paulo.
In the absence of the injured Keno, Sampaoli played Savarino on the left and Sasha through the middle. Atletico-MG were able to string passes around but there was a lack of real goal threat for both sides upfront.
In the second half, Atletico continued to dominate but it was more of the same from the first half.
Flu then grew into the game and forced two saves from Everson but it ended in a disappointing goalless stalemate at the end of the day.
With the result, Fluminense have seen their three-game winning streak come to an end.
On the path of Atletico, it sees them continue their poor run of form away from home. In the current campaign, they have amassed only 19 points from a possible total of 54 points in away games. Their final away fixture comes in the very last game of the Championship, against Sport.
For their next outing, Atletico will take on Bahia on Saturday in Mineirao where they have a very good win ratio so far this term. On the other hand, Fluminense travel to take on Ceará on Monday as they continue to seek a spot for the Libertadores, a tournament they have not taken part in since 2013.
