The 2024 season is already in full swing, but Flamengo is not slowing down in the search for reinforcements for its squad.

Directors Marcos Braz, vice-president of football, and Bruno Spindel, executive director, are in Europe on a crucial mission to secure new talent.

According to information from reporter Bruno Lemos, the priority of the visit is the negotiation with Roma, from Italy, to sign the player Matías Viña, and a meeting that is scheduled for this Thursday, January 18th, between the representatives of Brazilian club and Tiago Pinto, football director of the Italian team.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Flamengo delegation is still seeking to reach an understanding with Roma to facilitate the transfer of Matías Viña to Rubro-Negro.

The Rio club had offered 6 million euros (around R$32 million at current prices) at the end of last season, but the proposal was rejected by Roma, who were looking for almost double, requesting 10 million euros (R$53 million ).

Since then, conversations have evolved, and there are now indications that the transaction could be completed for around 8 million euros (R$42.5 million).

Tite, Flamengo’s current coach, has already given positive approval for the signing of Matías Viña.

The red-and-black coach sees in the Uruguayan player the ability to perform two crucial roles in the team. In addition to his original position as left back, Viña could act as a third defender on the left, a versatility that would add tactical options to the team.
