Flamengo has taken a step forward to repatriate forward Michael, who currently plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. A meeting between the Rio club and the player’s agent is expected to take place this Sunday (18) or, at the latest, next Monday (19).

The parties are still negotiating to define the terms of the deal, as Michael has a contract with the Saudi team until June of next year.

Signing of Michael

Michael’s arrival at Flamengo is a response to the recent injuries troubling coach Tite. With Viña and Cebolinha out for this season, and Gabigol and Pedro sidelined indefinitely, the Rubro-Negro management acted quickly to facilitate the return of the forward.

During his first stint from 2020 to 2022, Michael stood out under coach Renato Portaluppi. The “Robozinho” won six titles, including the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Recopa Sudamericana. He played 105 matches and scored 23 goals before being sold to Al-Hilal.

Other Brazilian clubs, such as Corinthians, Cruzeiro, and Grêmio, showed interest in signing the Brazilian, but the player has always made it clear that he wishes to return to Mengão.

“Saying goodbye, see you later, or farewell, however you want to interpret it, is not nice. Life is made up of cycles that open and close, but thank you very much. Thank you, Flamengo. Thank you to the coaching staffs. I thank the coaching staffs that have been through Flamengo, not all of them. With all due respect, but not all. Thank you to the players. Many talk about my moment, but for that good moment to have happened, it was you: athletes, fans… You made this happen,” said Michael.
