Flamengo announced that Vítor Pereira is no longer the coach of the first team. The poor start in the Copa Libertadores and the 4-1 defeat against Fluminense in the final of the Rio de Janeiro tournament were lapidary for continuity for the Brazilian coach.

Pereira had four titles opportunities with the team and lost them all.

The first rumors point to Jorge Jesus who knew how to be Champion of the Copa Libertadores with Mengão in 2019 and then continued his career at Benfica in his country and today he is in charge of Turkish Fenerbahçe.

The second name that appears on Flamengo’s radar is that of Jorge Sampaoli who was sacked by Sevilla after a series of poor results. Coach Mario Jorge of the U20 will take over the team provisionally while it is defined who will be the new coach of the first team.

Flamengo tried the same recipe from the Portuguese coach that had worked for them with Jorge Jesus in 2019 and Abel Ferreira in Palmeiras, but this time it was not successful. Pereira had arrived for this season from Corinthians and could not live up to the challenge.
