On a recent Sunday, The Mirror, a well-known English newspaper, brought to light Manchester United’s keen interest in Gabriel Barbosa (also known as Gabigol), a prominent player from Flamengo. The report indicated that Manchester United was prepared to pay a substantial termination fee of 20 million pounds (approximately R$121 million at current exchange rates) for Gabigol’s services, and they were also considering the possibility of loaning striker Antony from the same club.

To gather further insights into this potential exchange, Panorama Esportivo reached out to Flamengo’s Vice-President of Football, Marco Braz. His response was crystal clear, expressing that the likelihood of this deal happening was “zero.”

Recall that Manchester United is facing offensive challenges this season, with just 5 league goals from their attackers. According to The Mirror, they are considering a £20 million deal for Gabigol, which involves loaning Antony, who is having difficulties adapting to the team.

In the background, discussions between Gabriel Barbosa and Flamengo were ongoing to extend their existing contract. This contract was set to expire only in December 2024. Interestingly, the anticipation of such a move within the club had generated internal criticism among the red and black supporters.
