Flamengo beats Palmeiras 3-0 and intensifies competition for the Brasileirão title

In the classic of great rivalry in recent years, Flamengo won an important victory over Palmeiras, 3-0, on Wednesday night (8), at Maracanã, in the 33rd round of the Brasileirão. With an advantage, Flamengo continued to attack in search of more. Cebolinha recovered the ball, made a good move and risked a shot from outside the area. Weverton made the save. And it didn’t take long for Mengão to expand. At 28′, Cebolinha dominated on the left, cut inside and crossed into the area. Arrascaeta headed the ball into the net: 2-0.

In the final stretch of the first stage, the red and black team kept the game under control and went into the break winning with merit. An excellent collective game from the team, which created good chances up front.

At the beginning of the second half, defender Gustavo Gómez received a straight red card for a foul on Arrascaeta. The Palmeiras defender was the last man and stopped the Uruguayan who was heading towards the goal.

Needing to score, Palmeiras had no option but to attack, even with one player less. Rubro-Negro, in turn, managed to neutralize the opponent’s offensive.

At 18′, Mengão scored the third goal again with Pedro, the team’s top scorer of the year. Arrascaeta scored with Matheuzinho, and then with Cebolinha. The Uruguayan passed it to Ayrton Lucas, who crossed for Gerson to head into the middle of the area and Pedro took the opportunity to fill the net. A great collective play: 3 to 0.
