Flamengo brushed aside their latest opponents once again as they raced to a 2-0 win over Botafogo on Wednesday night.
The game started with Fla dominating proceedings as expected. However, Rubro-Negro soon saw their game-plan falter with Pedro going down injured just after 10 minutes of action.
Rodrigo Muniz replaced the attacker and made his mark in no time. In less than 15 minutes on the pitch, the teenager opened the scoring to give Flamengo the deserved lead in the 24th minute.
Hugo Moura then completed the scoring five minutes from time to seal a convincing 2-0 win for Flamengo. That goal would be in the mind of the 23-year-old for a while as it was his first ever goal in a red and black jersey.
To make matters worse for Botafogo, Kanu was given his marching orders in the second period after receiving a second yellow for a rash foul on Rodrigo Muniz.
Asides losing the game, Botafogo also lost their unbeaten status in the Carioca Championship. Prior to the game against Flamengo, Chamusca’s side had recorded a win and three draws. As it stands, only Madureira remains unbeaten in the competiton with two wins and three draws so far.
Following the win, Flamengo moved to the top of the Carioca Championship standings with 12 points, two ahead of second-placed Volta Redonda. Botafogo remain with six points and dropped to 7th on the standings.
Both teams will return for the next round of the Carioca Championship at the weekend. Flamengo will take on Boavista this Saturday while Botafogo would play Nova Iguaçu the next day.
