After several days of speculation, Flamengo finally announced Tite as their new coach until the end of 2024. The former Brazilian National Team manager had been out of work since resigning from the Seleção in December 2022, after the penalty loss against Croatia in the World Cup.

At 62 years old, he takes on the challenge of straightening the course of a club with great aspirations but few results in 2023. Although the strategist’s idea was to get a place in Europe, he has already spent many months away from the bench and the proposal of the Mengão was seductive enough for him to agree to return to work in his country.

The challenge of managing Flamengo

Flamengo’s season was marked by instability: without Dorival Júnior, who was champion of the 2022 Copa Libertadores, the year began with Portuguese Vítor Pereira in charge of the team. However, it lasted only 20 games: in April, the chosen one was Jorge Sampaoli.

The Argentine arrived with some question marks, and time showed that the skeptics were right: his period in Rio de Janeiro was full of conflicts, both within the squad and with the board, and the results were disappointing. Fla was left out of the Libertadores in the round of 16, lost in the final of the Brazil Cup against São Paulo and was somewhat far from Botafogo in the Brasileirao.

Tite then arrives at a sleeping giant, eager for sporting success because its history and its team, one of the most sought-after in the world, deserve it. We will have to see how he presents himself in this situation, but his resume has enough scrolls to excite the fans.
