The home team had it difficult in the first half and did not create so many chances, despite having majority of the possession of the ball. Flamengo eventually drew first blood just exactly at the stroke of half time. In the 45th minute, Fla broke the deadlock with a brilliant goal scored by Bruno Henrique. The first half ended with Flamengo up by a goal going into the break.
Few minutes into the second half, Chico retrieved the ball and placed it to Zé Roberto’s path to level matters in the 59th minute.
Flamengo pressured to get their winning goal despite having great chances but they were not able to break Atlético-GO defenses.
With the draw, Flamengo lost the chance to go level on point with leaders Atlético-MG with 38 points, Fell to fourth place on the log, and lost grounds on Palmeiras and Santos, leading both teams with just two points. Atlético-GO remains in 14th place with 24 points to their name so far.
Flamengo returns to the field on Wednesday against São Paulo in Morumbi in the return game of the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup. Dragão has a full week of training and will only return to the pitch side on Monday next week, the 23rd, against Sport, for the Brasileirão.
For Flamengo, the result is another ‘poor’ one for them as it means they are now without a win in their last four outings in the Brasileirão. For Atlético-GO, they have it even worse as they have gone five games without a win.
