Buts : Salah (26’), Firmino (90’) pour Liverpool et Son (33’) pour Tottenham.
Roberto Firmino was the hero of the day as Liverpool took all three points against Tottenham at Anfield to go three points clear at the summit of the Premier League table.
The match started with Liverpool paying a short tribute before kick-off to their former legendary manager Gerard Houlier who recently passed away.
Liverpool were the more dominant side in the first half as opposed to Tottenham who sat back and looked to play on the counter.
All of their continued presence paid off when Salah fired a shot that deflected off Alderweireld to go past Lloris and make it 1-0 for the Reds in the 26th minute.
The lead did not last for long at all as Son capitalized on a quick counter by Spurs and fired home calmly for the equalizer in the 33rd minute. The first half ended with both sides level at the break.
Spurs could have completed the turnaround in the second half when Steven Bergwijn missed a clear cut one-on-one chance with Alisson and could only hit the framework. Not long from then, Harry Kane also come close via a header but saw his effort just go narrowly wide.
The game pointed in the direction of a draw until the 90th minute when Firmino freed himself and connected to a corner kick to head home the late winner. It might only be his third goal of the season but it proved to be a very crucial one.
Liverpool will be aiming for yet another win when they face Crystal Palace at the weekend while Tottenham will be eager to get back on the winning side of things when they host Leicester on home turf on Sunday.
