After a woeful run in the Premier League of late, Liverpool finally took all three points in a match for the first time in their last five league outings.
A 2-0 victory over Sheffield United was enough to push the Reds back in strong contention for Champions League places.
Brazilian forward Firmino was named in the starting lineup and eventually played a big part in his side’s second goal.
Liverpool were frustrated from the very start with Sheffield goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale making a string of saves to keep his side competiting in the game. Firmino also saw one of his efforts saved as well.
Ramsdale finally saw the ball get past him as Curtis Jones scored his second Premier League goal with a neat strike just minutes into the second period.
Just after the hour mark, Firmino will go on to make a stamp on the game. In a move that started with him, the forward showed good movement and breezed his way to a deflected goal into the net.
In what was a brilliant team move, the 29-year-old thought he had recorded his seventh Premier League strike of the season but the goal was eventually credited as an own goal by Sheffield defender Bryan Kean.
Regardless, Firmino had a better game in the second half and was rather unfortunate to have finished the game without a goal.
The Liverpool forward remains well in the running to win the Samba Gold award, with a winner set to be announced anytime soon.
Firmino is once again expected to lead the line when Liverpool take on Chelsea in a crunch clash for their next league outing.
