Filipe Luís: “My dream is to coach Flamengo and win titles with the club”

After the 2-1 victory against Cuiabá, the footballer spoke about his next steps and his ambition to one day take on the job of coaching Flamengo:

“My dream is to coach Flamengo and win titles with the club. I am going to do it and I am going to fulfill it.”

He did not want to give any clues regarding the style of play he would like to play during his time as a coach, but he did make it clear that he would not give up the club’s winning identity:

“As Jorge Jesus would say, I don’t give clues (laughs). My style is Flamengo. You just have to see how the fans want Flamengo to play. This is how I want to make my team play. I have everything prepared and thought out, now I just have to put it into practice.”

Now, regarding his influences, the full-back did not want to forget Jorge Jesus, but he also highlighted Diego Simeone as his main motivation for training:

“Simeone, and this is very cool, he was the main person who made me want to be a coach. He transformed my life, that guy changed my way of thinking and my mentality. It made me a champion. If he was able to achieve that with me, I thought: ‘I have to convey this, I have to do it with someone.’ He was my main influence.”

“I had many coaches who helped me, but the one who marked me the most after Simeone was Jorge Jesus. Everyone has good things, Jorge Jesus also had bad things. Tite marked me, reinvented football, made me play inside and gave me eight more years of career. Dorival also gave me a wonderful year and many good things too.”
