Palmeiras fell 2 to 1 against Bragantino in the Brasileirão just before the second leg semi-final of the Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors. Although the defeat keeps them far from the leader Botafogo, Abel Ferreira had good news: Endrick’s performance.

The 17-year-old attacker ended a three-month drought without scoring with an early goal in which he showed off his speed and ability to finish in front of the goalkeeper. Even though Rony would keep his place in the starting eleven, the future Real Madrid player showed that he can be an option for the cup match on Thursday.

Abel Ferreira praises Endrick

“That’s it, when he has space to exploit his speed, which is his trademark along with dribbling and finishing. That’s his forte. When playing against a team with low blocking and little spacing, it also helps, of course. He is a 17-year-old player, I repeat: if it were a normal job, they would even prevent him from playing,” explained the Verdao coach at a press conference.

“What sometimes you don’t have is patience with some mistakes that are made in this training process, since in some games things don’t go so well. Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn.”

Endrick came on in injury time in the 0-0 draw at La Bombonera, and although he couldn’t do much, he demonstrated his hierarchy in just a few touches. Palmeiras will host Boca on Thursday, October 5 from 9:30 p.m. (local time) with the aim of reaching the Libertadores final for the third time in four years.
