When Douglas Costa signed with Fluminense at the beginning of the year, expectations were high. After leaving Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, the famous Brazilian winger arrived as a high-profile reinforcement for the reigning CONMEBOL Libertadores champion.
However, his time at the club did not go as expected. Shortly after his arrival, Globo Esporte reported that the former Juventus player terminated his contract with the Tricolor carioca.

Costa played just 22 matches in Rio de Janeiro, where he did not score any goals and provided only one assist. He did celebrate the Recopa Sudamericana at the beginning of the year, though. But he played a fairly secondary role in the team.
Harshly criticized by the fans amid a disappointing season in the Campeonato Brasileiro, the 33-year-old player had a productivity-based contract, so his departure does not incur a high cost for the club.
Before joining Fluminense, he had an agreement with Samsunspor in Turkey, but he canceled it to play under Fernando Diniz. The coach was eventually dismissed, and Costa could not secure his place either.
