“We need two important results to start climbing back in the competition. We will work hard to achieve them,” said Dorival Júnior, who took the reins of the Seleção in January with the mission of qualifying Brazil for the next World Cup.
Dorival Júnior relies on fan enthusiasm
In an interview with CBF TV, the coach emphasized the importance of rekindling the enthusiasm of Brazilian supporters. He hopes to see fans in attendance at the Couto Pereira Stadium to support the Seleção in this series of crucial matches. “I hope the supporters will come out in large numbers, that they will support us and regain the joy of following the Seleção Brasileira. We are doing everything to revive that enthusiasm, and I hope this series of matches will help us do that,” said Dorival, after attending Palmeiras’ 2-0 victory against Athletico Paranaense on Sunday night at the Ligga Arena.
After facing Ecuador, Brazil will conclude this international window on September 10 with a trip to Asunción to face Paraguay, another important step on the road to qualification.
Continuity and challenges against Ecuador
Dorival Júnior aims to continue the work started during the Copa América by maintaining a similar team structure while integrating promising young talents. “This will be a continuation of the work begun during the Copa América. Young talents are emerging, getting their first opportunities, which is important and draws attention. I hope we will have two decisive matches for our journey and achieve the necessary results to regain control of the competition,” he explained.
Regarding Friday’s opponent, Ecuador, Dorival Júnior highlighted the qualities of a team in full progression, which had a strong performance in the last Copa América before being eliminated on penalties by Argentina. “Ecuador is a great team, on the rise. I expect a good, tough match, but I hope for an excellent performance from the Seleção and, of course, to achieve the best possible result,” concluded the coach.
Thus, the Seleção begins a series of matches with the goal of restoring confidence and reconnecting with success on the international stage.
