Coach Fernando Diniz praised the performance of the Brazilian team players in the 1-0 victory over Peru in Lima, in the early hours of this Wednesday (13), in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Marquinhos’ header in the 44th minute of the second half after Neymar’s corner kick guaranteed Brazil’s 100% success in the competition. The team has six points and leads the qualifying tournament for the World Cup.
“Victory is very important. It is always super important to win. I think we won with great merit”, said Diniz after the second match in charge of the national team.
“It was a team that deserved to win despite the passing errors, we had a lot of imposition from the beginning of the match”, he added.

The coach said that Marquinhos’ goal move was trained in the last few days.
“We trained throwing the ball in the area. It defines championships. Today it defined the game. We knew how to defend ourselves well. We had clear chances, with goals disallowed. We ended up winning due to persistence, deservedness, a well-hit ball and high anticipation”, he explained.
At the press conference held at the National Stadium, Diniz classified the athletes’ performance at the beginning of their work as very positive.
“I’m satisfied with what we presented in the sum of the two games. In today’s game, it was a different atmosphere than Belém, in Pará. The team had to score three goals to be worth one. There was that minimal margin (when marking the offside of the attack Brazilian) that took eight minutes to not validate the goal. We didn’t have as much fluency, we found the pitch a little strange. This made it easier to mark (the Peruvians), and we had more errors in the technical part than normal. A lot on the field, in some moments trying to play in an accelerated way, but I think the balance was very positive”, said the coach.
The coach said the players are adapting to their work.
“The players will understand, you don’t need a lot of people to be superior, it’s a matter of occupying spaces well, circulating the ball well. We tried to accelerate too much, we didn’t have the patience to gradually dismantle the marking. This made it difficult for us game too”, admitted the coach.
The Seleção returns to play next month when the team will have two more qualifiers. Brazil faces Venezuela, in Cuiabá, on October 12th. Five days later, the team plays against Uruguay, in Montevideo.
