Diego Costa arrived in Porto Alegre with the task of filling the gap left by Luis Suárez’s departure to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, and he’s already on the right track.

With three goals in as many games for Gremio, the Lagarto native is enjoying his best start at a club in the last decade. The 35-year-old forward had been through two rather lackluster periods in his career.

Although he netted a brace in his debut with Botafogo last year, it took him nine games to score again. Previously, it took him 18 matches to find the net for Wolverhampton, which proved his lone goal for the Premier League side.

In 2021, Costa scored only once in his first three matches with Atlético Mineiro. His second stint at Atlético Madrid in 2018 had a better start when he scored twice in three matches.

However, to find a better start than the current one, we have to go back to 2014 when the striker recorded four goals in his first three games with Chelsea.
