Liverpool suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Monday and could yet lose their top spot to Manchester United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can overcome Burnley on Jan 12.
Southampton wasted no time at the St. Mary’s and scored in less than 120 seconds into the game.
Forward Danny Ings scored against his former side with a wonderful lobbed finish, after James Ward-Prowse found him in a makeshift Liverpool defence following a free kick.
Ings reached his 50th Premier League goal with the opener scoring (36) at Southampton, (11) at Burnley and (3) at Liverpool.
Liverpool with an overly poor performance throughout the game have now paved the way for Manchester United to top the table if the can savage a point or win against Burnley next week Tuesday.

There were lots of controversies in the game with VAR, all against the defending champions Liverpool. Kyle Walker-Peters went unpunished after he fouled Sadio Mane in the penalty area, and another after Jack Stephens handed the ball in the box preventing Wijnaldum shot from hitting the target.
Klopp whose side was also held in a goalless draw against Newcastle United in their last outing was disappointed with the refereeing decisions.
The win helped Southampton into sixth place level on points with Tottenham, Manchester City and Everton.
The result also blows the title race open especially with Liverpool and Manchester United set to face each other on January 17.
