Daniel Alves spoke publicly for the first time since being accused of sexually assaulting a woman. In an interview with La Vanguardia from prison, the player gave his version of the story, claiming that he only has to apologize to his ex-wife. “I still don’t know why she (the victim) did all this, but I forgive her. And I would like to apologize to the only person I owe an apology to, which is my wife, Joana Sanz,” Alves said.
“At that moment, if someone in charge of the club had asked me to wait because a young woman claimed that I had sexually assaulted her, I would not have gone home. That same night I would have gone to the police station to clarify what had happened. Nobody said anything to me there,” he added. “I left Sutton calmly. I got home. I took a shower because my wife was already asleep and I was ashamed of my infidelity. I lathered up in anger. I went to sleep in another bed.”
Dani Alves insists that he is innocent
The player, who is currently in custody, had his request for release rejected more than once. Spanish media reported the victim’s testimony, saying she was invited to a VIP area where she met Alves. According to her testimony, they danced together before the footballer sexually assaulted her. The victim claims he took her to a bathroom where the crime allegedly took place.
Daniel Alves’ defense requested for bail many times, but the Court of Appeal decided to maintain him in custody due to risk of flight. Alves is now waiting for trial.
