February will be a key month for the future of Daniel Alves, a 40-year-old Brazilian soccer player who, since December 2022, has been living in prison after the case of an alleged rape that he carried out in a popular nightclub in Barcelona became known.

Currently in preventive detention to avoid a possible escape, the Brazilian’s defenders are already preparing the final defense for the trial, which will formally begin on February 5, 2024 and, just weeks before its official start, the defenders would have changed for the fifth time his version of the facts.

Dani Alves’ defense will declare that the footballer was drunk during the alleged rape

According to the Catalan newspaper ARA, the defense will present a version of the events completely unpublished until now, since, according to this source, Dani Alves will declare that that night he had drunk to the point of total intoxication that would have affected his mental abilities, reaching a point of not being aware of his actions:

“The former Blaugrana will argue now, 15 days before the trial, that that night he was seriously impaired by alcohol consumption and that this affected his abilities. In other words, he will say that he was not aware of his actions due to his state of intoxication.”

“Until now, at all times, neither Dani Alves himself nor any of the witnesses that night had indicated that the footballer had drunk. His wife, Joana Sanz, will testify at the trial at the request of the footballer’s defense to say that that night, after the alleged rape, Alves came home drunk in the early hours of the morning,” says journalist Cesc Maideu in ARA.

This new version of events could further complicate the complicated case involving the historic footballer and the plaintiff. The truth is that the trial is about to begin and this version of the story, the fifth in just over a year, generates certain doubts among the international press.
