This Friday (9th), Brazilian officiating will be part of another chapter of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Referee Daiane Muniz will be in the VAR booth and will serve as the Assistant Video Referee (AVAR) in the bronze medal match of the women’s football between Spain and Germany. The match will take place at 10 AM (Brasília time) at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France. The Spanish team lost to Brazil in the semifinals, which is why they are facing the Germans, who were defeated by the United States.

This is not the first time the referee from the São Paulo Football Federation has participated in the Olympics. Daiane was responsible for the debut of Brazilian officiating in the Games on July 24. She served as the Assistant Video Referee (AVAR) in the 1-1 draw between Mali and Israel at the Parc des Princes in Group D of the women’s football tournament.

Brazilian trio in the men’s football final

The final of the men’s football tournament at the Paris Games will feature a trio of Brazilian referees. Ramon Abatti Abel, Rafael Alves, and Guilherme Camilo have been appointed by FIFA to officiate the match between France and Spain this Friday (9th) at 1 PM (Brasília time) at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

This is the second consecutive international tournament final with the participation of Brazilian referees. In the Copa América, the final between Argentina and Colombia had Rafael Claus as the main referee, accompanied by assistants Bruno Pires and Rodrigo Correa. In the VAR booth, Rodolpho Toski oversaw the reviews, assisted by Danilo Manis, Daniel Nobre, and Pablo Gonçalves.

Among the 89 referees appointed for the Olympics, seven are Brazilian (four women and three men), the highest number from a single country in the competition. In addition to Daiane Muniz, the others are Edina Alves, Neuza Back, Fabrini Bevilaqua, Ramon Abatti, Rafael Alves, and Guilherme.
