Roney and Caio Dantas were the goal scorers for Sampaio, while, Manoel made his mark and scored for Cruzeiro. The result helped the São Luís team to cruise out of the relegation zone with 14 points. Cruzeiro, on the other hand, remains in the zone in 18th position after the defeat with 11 points.
In the first half, Cruzeiro started the game with great intensity and they looked great candidates to win the game.
However, Sampaio Corrêa were the team that showed more organization and awareness to win. The visiting team held their ground in defence until their opening goal in the 12th minutes scored by Roney, giving them more confidence to gain grounds.
In the 39th minute, Sampaio had another chance to extend their lead, but failed and were punished following a free kick from Machado, who placed in a cross and was met by Manoel’s header to put his side Cruzeiro on level grounds. The first half ended 1-1.
In the second half, Cruzeiro continued to dominate the game, but Sampaio Corrêa remained the more organized team, causing more problems in attack. 13 minutes in the second period, after a great move by Pimentinha on the right, Caio Dantas scored for the visitors leaving Fábio with no chance and putting his team ahead.
After going down for the second time, the home team started to apply more pressuring in other to get an equalizing goal, but failed. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Sampaio Corrêa.
For their next outing, Raposa faces West at Arena Barueri on Sunday. Sampaio, on the other hand, plays at home: they host Botafogo-SP, on that same day.
