Fábio made a wonderful save in the first half by keeping a penalty kick out, while in the second half Marcelo Carné stood up to save his side Juventude.
Célio Lúcio made changes in Cruzeiro, as he had initially stated, but the changes had no effect in the first half. Juventude were the better side straight from the beginning.
In the 7th minute, they had an early chance to open the scoring with Cajá after being awarded a penalty. However, the midfielder’s shot was stopped by goalkeeper Fábio.
The first half was all filled with emotions and angry outburst were raining, with the game involved in more fight than the actual play. The game ended up having four yellow cards shown by the referee to the players.
In the second half, Cruzeiro decided to push forward and attack and take advantage of the spaces. Fábio was outstanding in the first half by the penalty save, Carné was outstanding as well as he saved Juventude in the end of the final 45 minutes. It was a game of goalkeepers and both goalies showed their worth for their sides.
At extra time, Claudinho missed the last chance to put his side in the lead, with his shot going close but hitting the woodwork.
Both teams will return to the play next Tuesday. Juventude hosts Avaí at the Alfredo Jaconi stadium. Later that day Cruzeiro plays away from home against Operário at the Germano Krüger stadium.
