Brazilian idol Cristiane had a lot to say after the national team’s elimination on this year’s World Cup. Second player with most goals scored with the Canarinha, she was left out of the tournament and of Pia Sundhage’s call-ups in the recent years.
In an interview with Brazilian website Trivela, she said that she expected a different posture in the elimination game against Jamaica. Things would be different if Cristiane was on the field, she guarantees.

“The passivity, especially the one that the coaching staff had on the side of the field… That really pissed me off on one level, you know? That happened because I wasn’t there, because my reaction wasn’t going to be like that. If I was there, things would be different in the locker room. I’m not like that, this passive person, who just accepts that she’s leaving the biggest competition that exists on the planet in a good way. I am very angry,” she complained.
This was the first elimination of Brazil in the group phase of the World Cup since 1995. It also happened in 1991. Since then, the team has always been on the spotlight and was also the runner-up in the 2007 edition.
“I don’t know if people are aware of how serious this elimination was. I think people still haven’t realized how serious it was, what it was like to leave the World Cup that way. It is extremely shameful,” lammented Cristiane.
Cristiane wants to play for Brazil again
Even though Cristiane has not been called up by Sundhage, she says that she never gave up on the dream of playing for the Brazilian National Team again. The striker is now 38-years-old.
“As long as the physique is holding up well, I’ll keep going. I did not give up. I always had the goal, the dedication. I never denied that to the national team. Quite the contrary, I always worked, I always dedicated myself and I was always the one to be summoned. But, unfortunately, things didn’t work out.”
