In one of the best results of the round, Corinthians thumped Fluminense 5-0 at home on Wednesday. This is the biggest win against the visitors in 113 matches played in their clubs’ history.
Jô first opened up the scoring, before Cazares, Fágner, Mateus Vital and Luan added to the score line in the second half.
Corinthians brought their A game and dominated every single play of the game. They drew first blood in the 26th minute when Jô hit the rebound as Marcos Felipe couldn’t hold onto the ball after Mosquito’s shot.
Fluminense saw themselves at a disadvantage going into the break and decided to introduce Nenê and Lucca to help change the fortune of the match around.
The decision made had no significant changes to the outcome of the match as Cazares doubled the hosts advantage following a counter attacking situation and a wonderful pass from Mosquito in the 56th minutes.
Fágner added to the goal tally from a volley six minutes later before Mateus Vital made it 4-0 in the 67th minute.
Luan completed the trashing as he volleyed his effort from outside the goal area right before the final whistle in the 90th minute, and handed his side their greatest score line over their opponent in the club’s history.
Fluminense now edges Corinthians with only one point in the league table after the defeat, with both sides sitting in 7th and 8th place respectively.
Fluminense returns to face Sport on Saturday while Corinthians will go against Palmeiras on Monday for a rescheduled match after it was postponed.
