Brazil is the land of soccer, but for one day it will also be the land of American soccer. The National Football League (NFL), which brings together the teams of this sport in the United States, decided that a game in the 2024 regular season will be played in São Paulo.

There is still no date for what will be the first official match of the competition to be played in South America, but there is confirmation that it will be at the Corinthians Arena. The stadium, one of the venues for the 2014 World Cup, was chosen for its dimensions and modern infrastructure.

The Brazilian city was chosen over Madrid, the other candidate. The other four regular season games that will be played outside the United States will be in the United Kingdom and Germany.

“It is an exciting decision,” said the mayor of São Paulo

“Bringing the NFL to new continents, countries and cities around the world is a critical element of our plan to grow the game globally,” said commissioner Roger Goodell, according to a statement.

“The NFL’s decision to bring a regular season game to São Paulo is significant and exciting for the city, consolidating Sao Paulo and Brazil at the center of the world sports scene,” said the city’s mayor, Ricardo Nunes.

“We are immensely happy and honored by this partnership. It is further proof of the very high level of quality to which Corinthians and the Neo Química Arena are committed, making the setting for one of the greatest sporting spectacles in the world,” said Duilio Monteiro, president of the club.
