The game
With the field severely damaged due to heavy rain and concerts held at Arena do Grêmio, the match started in Porto Alegre.
After six minutes, Matheus Bidu entered the area and appeared to be brought down. The Corinthians players complained about a possible penalty, but the referee ordered it to continue. Following the play, Bruno Méndez fouled a Grêmio athlete. The move was reviewed by VAR and the Timão defender was sent off.
With the match very nervous and the field bad, both teams had difficulties with short passes. Grêmio, with a numerical player advantage, imposed more game volume, however, Corinthians tried to attack with speed.
From a corner kick in the 31st minute, Caetano touched the ball, it went to Lucas Veríssimo who headed it to Romero. The Paraguayan put it into the net, opening the scoresheet and also giving the game it’s final score: 1-0.
