In a game with a lot of chances created in the first half, Madson drew first blood for Peixe, while Danilo Avelar responded to level things up. Timão had a chance to take the win late on, but João Paulo made a world class save to prevent Mateus Vital’s shot.
The result was not a good one for Santos as it meant they have failed to beat their biggest rivals this year 2020.
Santos, even with a slim squad and lot of absentees, started the game with an upper foot than Corinthians.
With lot of openings, Madson took advantage over Lucas Piton, in a move that led to the first goal. Jean Mota crossed the ball from the left, leaving Madson with a clear header allowing him to score and put his team ahead.
Corinthians dominated possession with (63%) of the ball to themselves, but were unable to make good use of it, with the ball being pushed around the defence without going forward.
Gradually, Timão started seeing spaces to shoot, with a couple of outside shots they found a break through and got their equalizer through Danilo Avelar.
In the second half, Corinthians made three changes. Boselli, Cazares and Gustavo Mosquito were all substituted in. The introduction of the players made Timão noticeably better.
The best chances of the contest to break the tie came from Timão: a long pass orchestrated by Avelar meeting up Mateus Vital who tried his luck from distance, but could only get a world class save from João Paulo. Both teams had to settle for a draw.
Santos faces Grêmio next Sunday in Vila Belmiro. Also on Sunday, Corinthians visits Ceará at Castelão.
