With the Brazilian National Team in search of the 10th conquest, the Copa América begins this Thursday (20) in the United States. The oldest national team tournament in the world promises to be the most exciting edition in history with the participation of 16 teams (Ten from Conmebol and six from Concacaf).

The competition will be held in 14 cities in the United States. The reigning champion, Argentina, will open the Copa América against Canada, which will debut in the tournament. The game will be in Atlanta starting at 9pm (Brasília time).

With nine titles, Brazil will debut in the competition on Monday (24), when they will face Costa Rica, in Los Angeles. Colombia and Paraguay will also be Brazil’s opponents in the first phase.

“Perhaps it is the most difficult draw, but the National Team is prepared, doing a great job. I hope the results happen as soon as possible,” said coach Dorival Júnior.

The Copa América will be the coach’s first official competition in charge of Brazil. He debuted in March with two good results. The team defeated England 1-0 at Wembley and drew 3-3 with Spain in Madrid.

Brazil has been preparing since May 30 for the competition. Orlando was the base of the delegation, which will travel this Thursday (20) to Los Angeles, where they will make their debut in the continental competition. The team has already played two friendlies during this period, winning 3-2 against Mexico and drawing 1-1 against the United States.

“The Copa América is a historic competition. It has a very great weight. That’s what we’re talking about. All who were champions… we know how good it is to win and how bad it is to lose. We try to pass this on to those who are coming to compete for the first time. Being a champion is good for the cycle,” said defender Marquinhos, who participated in the 2019 Copa América conquest, the last one won by Brazil.

The Copa América will mark the beginning of a series of mega sporting events in the United States. Next year, the country will host the FIFA Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams. In 2026, the governing body will organize the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
