After 18 months in charge at Chelsea, Frank Lampard has been given the sacking orders by the Blues. As per multiple reliable reports, Lampard is set to be replaced by former PSG and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea are reportedly working to appoint Tuchel as new manager ahead of their next game against Wolves on Wednesday.
In a statement by Roman Abrahimovic as released by the club’s website, the Chelsea owner says sacking Lampard was a tough decision for the club.
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.”
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.”
Lampard enjoyed a decent first season at Chelsea where he secured a top-four finish and led them to the FA Cup final even with a transfer ban at the time.
However, Lampard’s problems came after he had a summer of heavy spending but has yet to deliver any real improvement.
The Blues spent over 200m on new signings in the summer and still find themselves ninth in the Premier League. After 19 games gone, the Blues are 11 points behind leaders Manchester United and are also five points below Liverpool in fourth place.
Asides that, new signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have yet to impressed in a season where Chelsea have been largely inconsistent.
Frank Lampard also has the lowest win-rate of the last six Chelsea managers and some feel that is a let-down given a summer of investment.
The next era for the Blues is set to carry on with experienced Thomas Tuchel set to take over at the hot-seat.
