Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, as the Blues reached their first Champions League finals in nine years.
Timo Werner and Mason Mount were on target, continuing their blistering form, and finishing what they started after the 1-1 draw in Spain last week Tuesday.
Real Madrid, who welcomed some new faces back from injuries, controlled possession from kick-off without causing any damage to their opposition.
Werner, who has been criticized all season for his misses, would have given the London side an early lead in the 18th minute, when he tapped in Ben Chilwell’s cross, but he was slightly offside.
Karim Benzema on the other end, would have drawn first blood, giving the Los Blancos the early advantage. However, Chelsea’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy pulled off a superb save to deny the French man.
in the 28th minute, however, Chelsea went ahead when Kai Havertz played in by N’Golo Kante saw his chipped effort over Thibaut Courtois hit the cross bar and then headed in by Werner on the rebound at close range.
Few moments later, Benzema forced another superb save from Mendy with a header following a cross from Luka Modric.
In the second half, the record thirteen-time UCL winner, struggled to create any further opportunities, allowing Chelsea to take control of the game.
Thomas Tuchel’s side continued to create lots of chances, with Mason Mount and Kante missing good goal-scoring opportunities. But with five minutes left to play, substitute Christian Pulisic kept his cool and played the ball into the path of Mason Mount, who smashed the ball home from close range to make it 2-0.
With the victory and a 3-1 aggregate score, Chelsea will face Manchester City, who got past PSG in Istanbul on May 29 in a second all-English Champions League final in two seasons.
