Thomas Tuchel was appointed Chelsea manager on Tuesday afternoon after the Blues chose to part ways with Frank Lampard a day earlier.
Given Lampard’s status as a Blues legend, owner Roman Abrahimovic admitted the sacking was a difficult decision for him but had to be done.
Under Lampard, Chelsea had suffered five defeats in their last eight games. It is a poor run of form that saw them slip to tenth in the Premier League standings.
The Blues then took the decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach. The German manager joins Chelsea with much experience on his hands having managed Bundesliga sides Mainz and Borussia Dortmund alongside Ligue 1 giants PSG.
Speaking after joining the club, Tuchel says the chance to manage Chelsea was one he and his staff could not reject.
“It’s hard to explain. My life was turned upside down in the past three days or so!” Tuchel said in an interview as per the Chelsea official website.
“It feels amazing to the new head coach of Chelsea and I’m really excited to be here. Me and my staff had the feeling that this was too good an opportunity not to take and personally I felt this was a chance I could not let go away.”
“We could not miss this opportunity to be part of this club and to be part of the Chelsea family. To work with this squad and compete in the toughest league in the Premier League and of course the Champions League is something we are excited to take on.”
Tuchel will oversee his first game as Blues manager when Chelsea take on Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
