There are only a few days left for the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023, and here are some curiosities about the Women’s National Team that were compiled by the Brazilian FA (CBF) to help in getting to know the athletes that will represent Brazil.

1. The top scorer
Canarinho’s top scorer could have no other owner than her: Marta. In all, there were 122 goals, two silver medals at the Olympics (2004 and 2008), a runner-up at the World Cup in China (2007) and two gold medals at the Pan American Games (2003 and 2007). In addition, the Queen has participated in five World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019), scoring in all editions. In this World Cup, she can become the first player to score in six editions of the World Cup, but she will have competition from the Canadian Christine Sinclair, who will also look for that mark.
2. The youngsters
The position of youngest of the Brazilian National Team in this Cup is occupied by Aline. The Ferroviária star who is on the team’s substitute arrived in Australia at the age of 17, but celebrated her 18th birthday on July 7 in Australia. Aline was called up to defend the main team for the first time in 2023.
The youngest player called up for the World Cup is the Korean Casey Phair. The striker turned 16 on June 29. If she participates in one of Korea’s first two matches in the group stage, she will become the youngest athlete to play in the tournament.
3. Experienced in the Cup
Formiga was the oldest player to play in a Women’s World Cup. The midfielder was 41 years and 112 days old when she played in the round of 16 of the French Cup in 2019 against the hosts.
In 2023, the post of oldest athlete goes to Nigerian Onome Ebi, 40 years old. The defender could become the first African player to play in six World Cups, both in the women’s and men’s categories. In this Cup, the most experienced player in the Brazilian national team is Marta, 37 years old.
4. #ForTheFirstStar
The Women’s National Team has participated in all World Cups since the first tournament held, in 1991. The best result achieved so far was runner-up in 2007, when Brazil was surpassed by Germany.
In 2023, the team arrives in Australia seeking to win the first star.
5. FIFA Ranking
The Women’s National Team has made significant progress on the international stage. In the June update of this year, Brazil appears in 8th position with 1,995.30 points. In the previous publication, Canarinho was in 9th place, with 1,972.99 points. On the FIFA Date in April, the draw against England (4th), 1-1, in the Women’s Final, and the victory over Germany (2nd) by 2-1, were decisive for the evolution in the overall picture.
Fixtures in the WC
The debut of the Women’s National Team in the 2023 FIFA World Cup will be on July 24 against Panama, in Adelaide (AUS). Next, they face France, on the 29th, in Brisbane (AUS). The team closes the participation in the first phase, on August 2nd, against Jamaica, in Melbourne (AUS).
