Even though the start of the Brasileirao is still months away from us, the 2024 season has already begun in some places in Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro, for example, the Carioca Championship is well underway, bringing together different teams from the region.
The 12 participating clubs (Audax Rio, Bangu, Boavista, Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, Madureira, Nova Iguaçu, Portuguesa, Sampaio Corrêa, Vasco da Gama, and Volta Redonda) face off in a round-robin format in a regular phase of 11 rounds, with the top four advancing to the semifinals.

All the Cariocão champions
The winningest team in competition history are Flamengo with 37 titles, but Fluminense closely follow their lifelong rivals with 33 trophies. Further behind are Vasco da Gama and Botafogo with 24 and 21 titles, respectively.
