Tigres can hold their heads up high despite their defeat to Bayern Munich.
Perhaps no one expected them to win against the European champions and the Mexican side even put out a better display than expected.
Tigres had already beaten Palmeiras to advance to the finals but a dominant Bayern side proved to be too tough to handle.
A goal from Benjamin Pavard in the 59th minute proved to be the only goal of the game. It was a night where Bayern dominated possession but the Mexican side also came close as well.
Despite the loss, there were a number of standout names for Tigres.
First on the list was goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman who remains a reliable presence in goal for the Mexican outfit. In fact, he made a number of key saves and Bayern could easily have scored three or four goals but for his heroics.
Elsewhere, striker Gignac also did his best but was not afforded enough space and ended up playing most of the game on the flanks. Another standout name in the game was Brazilian Rafael Carioca who made a string of decent passes in midfield. To complete the list, Carlos Salcedo and Jesus Dueñas also showed some resolute defending to keep the Germans at bay.
With the win, Bayern complete what was an outstanding 2020 where they will have officially won six titles in total. The Club World Cup counts for a 2020 trophy given that it was postponed from December due to the pandemic.
For their efforts and a runner-up finish, Tigres will be going home with $ 4 million in cash prize.
