The Brazilian National Team defeated Nigeria 1-0 in their debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Competing in the Olympic Games for the sixth time, Marta revealed how she stays in shape and remains a high-performance athlete at 38 years old.
“There’s no secret. It’s dedication, a lot of willpower, giving 100%, staying focused, and I’ve been doing that my whole life. That’s the tip: a lot of discipline.”
The victory could have been greater: Marta had found the net but had the goal disallowed for offside. Soon after, the number 10 provided the assist for Gabi Nunes, who scored the winning goal.

The Queen stated that the team cannot be shaken by adversities. According to Marta, it’s necessary to keep focus on the match and always aim for victory.
“It happens. The important thing is that we didn’t dwell on that moment. Right after, we managed to find a ball for Gabi, who was fortunate and scored the goal that gave us the victory. What we did was add three points, which was our objective. Now we need to think about the next game and recover to be 100% against Japan,” she concluded.
The Brazilian National Team will return to the field next Sunday (28) at 12 PM (Brasilia time) at the Parc des Princes in Paris. The match against Japan is valid for the second round of the Olympic group stage.
