What results do Palmeiras need to be champions in round 37?
Round 37 of the Brasileirão will start on Saturday with two matches and will end on Sunday with a series of games at different times. To be able to celebrate the title prematurely, Palmeiras (66 points) must beat Fluminense at home. However, they also need their pursuers (Botafogo, Atlético Mineiro, and Grêmio, all with 63 points) not to win their respective matches.
On Saturday, Atlético Mineiro will face Sao Paulo, and if they manage to win, they will end the possibility of seeing Palmeiras win the trophy this weekend. If the Galo lose or draw, Palmeiras will have to win their match against Fluminense on Sunday and wait for the results of the Botafogo vs. Cruzeiro and Grêmio vs. Vasco da Gama matches, which will be played after Verdão’s match.
If Fogao and the Tricolor fail to secure all three points, Alviverde would automatically secure the championship. However, similar to the case of Atlético Mineiro’s Saturday match, if either of the two teams manage to win their respective matches, Palmeiras will have to wait until the last round to try and clinch the top seed.
If Palmeiras draw against Fluminense, they could also be champions in round 37, but to achieve this, Atlético Mineiro, Grêmio, and Botafogo must lose their matches.
