A new Barça?
- Barcelona officially announced on Wednesday the signing of Hansi Flick, former coach of Bayern Munich and the German national team;
- Flick signed a two-season contract, valid until June 2026, replacing Xavi, who was fired after a season without titles;
- The change in technical command was quick: last Friday, president Joan Laporta communicated Xavi’s dismissal to him, and the negotiations with Flick were concluded shortly afterwards;
- According to the newspaper “Sport”, the German coach accepted a 15% lower salary than Xavi’s in the next season.
New opportunities
Flick’s arrival at Barcelona generates expectations among the players, especially Vitor Roque, who had few opportunities under Xavi’s command.
The young striker, formerly of Athletico-PR, hopes the new coach can value him and integrate him more frequently into the first team. Roque sees in Flick the chance to show his potential and contribute significantly to the Catalan team.
Flick’s career
Hansi Flick brings with him a successful curriculum. At Bayern Munich, he won seven titles in just two years, including a Champions League, a Club World Cup and two Bundesligas. Despite his recent departure from the German national team in September 2023, his track record of victories and his playing style are factors that can benefit the new phase of Barcelona.
Xavi vs Barça
Xavi, who had reversed a decision to leave the club in January and announced his stay until June 2025, faced financial difficulties and pressure for results. His departure occurred amid a season without achievements and internal disagreements.
Now, with Flick in charge, the expectation is that Barcelona can find a path to success and become competitive again in the main competitions.
