One of the main Brazilian players in the current edition of the Premier League, midfielder Bruno Guimarães made a great story in Brazilian football between 2017 and 2019, wearing the Athletico-PR jersey.

With Furacão, Bruno Guimarães won, among other titles, the 2018 Copa Sudamericana and the 2019 Copa do Brasil. He was sold to Lyon, France, in 2020, and has been playing for Newcastle since 2022.

In an interview with ESPN, the broadcaster of the Premier League, Bruno Guimarães said that midfielder Raphael Veiga from Palmeiras would fit well in England.

Both played together at Athletico-PR in 2018 and won the Copa Sudamericana.

“He is one of the names that would fit in here. Takes good corner kicks, shoots from long range, has a good set piece. We were together in 2018 at Athletico-PR. I believe he can have a very good future if he comes to Europe,” Bruno Guimarães stated in an interview with ESPN.

Raphael Veiga has never played abroad

Since turning professional, Raphael Veiga has only played for clubs in Brazil: for Coritiba in 2016, for Palmeiras since 2017, and for Athletico-PR in a short loan spell in 2018.

In January this year, Palmeiras turned down an offer from Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. At 28 years old, Veiga was called up for the Brazilian national team for the first time in 2023, remembered by coaches Ramon Menezes and Fernando Diniz.

In a recent interview with the Spanish newspaper AS, Veiga mentioned his favorite European teams: “I like many teams in Europe. Barcelona, Real Madrid, City, Arsenal, and others like Manchester United… it’s hard to mention just one. There are impressive teams and all have something special and interesting.”

Veiga also mentioned who his favorite player is: “I love Kevin de Bruyne. He plays in the same position as me, and I pay a lot of attention to him. He is my favorite player and the one I enjoy following the most.”
