A united group. This is what midfielder Bruno Guimarães, from the Brazilian National Team, guarantees. In a press conference held this Sunday (30), in San Jose, United States, the athlete recalled the penalty kick missed by Lucas Paquetá in the first half of the match against Paraguay and the importance of the squad’s support to the player, who scored in the final stretch, on a penalty kick.

“Above all, we are a group of friends. We like to be with each other. We are always together chatting, playing truco, playing video games, training, whatever it is. It’s a group that likes to stay very close to each other. When someone misses a penalty, it’s a time when you need to show unity. It’s not easy to miss and it has happened to everyone. Paquetá was not the first and will not be the last. We supported him and on the next play he was able to provide the assist. The moment of his goal, we played together at Lyon, we’ve had other celebrations together, but this one didn’t quite work out. It was a nice moment and we showed the strength of the group. Glad for this last game in which things went well. We just need to stay focused, with both feet on the ground, because there’s a lot ahead.”

For Bruno Guimarães, the group has a mission to get even closer to the fans.

“When we wear the Brazilian National Team jersey, there is the pressure to always win. Since we haven’t won the last few World Cups, there’s even more pressure. We want to bring the fans closer, not that they aren’t already, but we want 100% of the population. We know it’s difficult, but we’re here for them. When I was a kid I was passionate about Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaká. We want to do the same with Vini, Rodrygo. We want to make our mark in history as well and there is no “us against the fans”. It’s everyone together, in the same direction. I think we are managing to bring the fans closer.”

The next commitment of the Brazilian National Team is against Colombia, on Tuesday (2), in Santa Clara, for the last round of the group stage. The team led by coach Dorival Júnior is in second place with four points. The match will define the top spot in the group.
