Held annually since 1991, the Swiss-based organization bases its criteria on the competitiveness of the clubs in domestic and continental tournaments.

The Brasileirão was chosen last year as the best league on the entire planet, but in the latest list, which bases its data from January 1 to December 31, 2023, it fell to fourth place. Despite this drop, it is still considered the highest among those that are not European.
The number one spot is now held by the Italian Serie A, an achievement it has achieved for the twelfth time since this list existed. In second place, the same location as last year, is the Premier League, while Spain’s LaLiga retains the third step and remains on the podium.

The best leagues outside Europe
After Brazil, the best league outside the Old Continent is Argentina, which is in tenth place for the IFFHS. One place lower is the Colombian league, Paraguay is in 13th place and Ecuador is in 17th place.
Mexico leads the question among CONCACAF in position 36, ahead of Costa Rica (50) and the United States (63). Major League Soccer fell 20 places compared to last year’s ranking, despite the hiring of great figures such as Lionel Messi.
