Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, better known as Dunga, is undeniably one of the icons of Brazilian football. Born in 1963 in Ijuí, this defensive midfielder spent most of his career at his country’s biggest clubs, including Internacional, Corinthians and Santos. With a powerful and combative temperament, he also distinguished himself in the Brazilian national team between 1984 and 1998, winning the 1994 World Cup.
With this rich experience on the field, Dunga has always been able to transcend his charisma as a leader beyond the simple sporting framework. Now retired from competition for more than 15 years, the former strategist has himself converted to humanitarian action. Concerned about the future of the most fragile in his hometown of Porto Alegre, in 2020 he created the charitable project “Seleção do Bem”.
Coordinating a network of volunteers, Dunga methodically organizes the collection and distribution of food, clothing and supplies to people in precarious situations. Thanks to his intact notoriety in the world of Brazilian football, he manages to mobilize generous contributions from former partners or partner companies. His broad knowledge is also put to good use through his involvement in an ambitious program to rehabilitate unsanitary housing.

Its commitment to serving future generations
When the global health crisis hit Brazil in 2020, Dunga was able to respond with speed and determination. Its charitable action then intensified, organizing massive distributions of food, basic necessities and protective equipment to deal with the economic and social consequences of the pandemic. More than 10 tons of resources were thus able to be redistributed to the most vulnerable Brazilians.
In parallel with these emergency missions, the former maestro continues the development of lasting social assistance structures. In particular, he supervises the “Esporte Clube Cidadão” project, which welcomes more than 200 children in precarious situations in edutainment workshops and sporting activities. Hailed for his commitment, Dunga today embodies solidarity commitment through his example. With his popularity intact, he will certainly continue to put all his energy and his address book at the service of the most deprived.
Driven by a desire for transmission inherited from his years in the field, Dunga shares his vast experience and charisma with those who need it most. A meritorious reconversion for one of the biggest names in Brazilian football.
