In coach Arthur Elias’ debut, the Brazilian Women’s Team beat Canada 1-0 in a friendly match held this Saturday (28) at the Saputo Stadium, in Montreal, Canada. The game is part of the team’s preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Debinha scored the only goal of the match, in the 48th minute of the second half, rewarding the team that sought to attack the entire time, creating several chances.
The game had an added attraction: Marta and Cristiane played together, something that hadn’t happened since February 2021.

After a balanced start, with a little more momentum from Canada, Arthur Elias’ team adjusted and changed the situation.
From the 23rd to the 31st minute of the game, the team threatened Canada’s goal four times. In one of them, Tamires just needed to support Adriana’s cross to score.
On another chance, Adriana hit a beautiful shot from outside the area and forced goalkeeper Sheridan to stretch herself to avoid the goal.
Cristiane left at halftime. She gave the vacancy to Gabi Nunes.
Marta would leave the field 13 minutes into the second half, replaced by Bia Zaneratto. In recognition of the story of the main player in women’s football, the audience at the Saputo Stadium gave Marta a standing ovation. She reciprocated with a gesture of thanks.
The team set a strong pace and almost opened the scoring with Debinha, who had replaced Geyse. Again, goalkeeper Sheridan came up to make the save.
Best on the field, Sheridan would shine on other occasions, with chances from Ary Borges and again from Debinha. The Seleção was far superior to the hosts in the second half.
The score could have been reset before Debinha’s goal if the referee had awarded a penalty to Jade Rosa, who fell in her team’s area with her right arm on top of the ball, after a good move by Debinha herself on the left.
As the friendly did not have VAR, the game continued, despite complaints from the Brazilian athletes.
But the team didn’t give up trying, believing, seeking victory. Brazil put pressure on the Canadians and, in stoppage time, recovered a ball from the opposing team’s mistake.
Afterwards, Debinha kicked hard from outside the area, the ball bounced off two defenders and, this time, Sheridan was unable to do anything. Deserved victory for the Brazilian team.
On Tuesday (31), the two teams will face each other again in the city of Halifax, in the same country.
Brazil beat Canada with the following formation: Letícia; Antônia, Lauren, Rafaelle and Tamires; Luana (Angelina), Ary Borges (Duda Sampaio) and Marta (Bia Zaneratto); Adriana (Gabi Portilho), Cristiane (Gabi Nunes) and Geyse (Debinha).
