Kauã Elias opened the scoring in the 43rd minute of the first half, after a good individual play by Estevão. With class, the number 9 scored his fourth goal in the World Cup and showed that he is in contention for the competition’s top scorer, equal with Takaoka, from Japan. Kauã stated that he is aiming for the World Cup top scorer award.

“That’s what I always try to do, be a top scorer. Of course, it’s not a question of me wanting it, it’s a set of things that happen so that it can happen. But it’s one of my goals to be top scorer in the competition”, said the striker, who was also top scorer in winning the South American Under-17 Championship in April this year.

In the previous match, Kauã scored a hat-trick in the rout against New Caledonia. He explained what training is like so that he can always be well placed and take advantage of opportunities.

“It’s about trying to be in the right space, not running around wrong. Because there will always be a ball left and I will be in the right place at the right time. It’s part of the training we do, looking for empty spaces to improve our finishing and score a goal.”
