Couto Pereira will host the Brazilian National Team’s first match this year in the World Cup Qualifiers. The stadium in Curitiba will be the venue for the match against Ecuador on September 6.

The game will also mark the team’s return to Curitiba after more than two decades. The last time the National Team played in the Paraná capital was in November 2003. On that occasion, the team, led by Carlos Alberto Parreira, drew 3-3 with Uruguay in a match valid for the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers. The game was held at Pinheirão.

The good condition of the pitch at Couto Pereira and the location of Curitiba were decisive factors for the CBF’s choice of stadium for the National Team’s game in September. The Paraná capital is about an hour and a half flight from Asunción, where Brazil’s next match in the competition will take place. On September 10, Brazil will face Paraguay in the Paraguayan capital.

Undefeated in Curitiba

The National Team has played nine times in the Paraná capital, with six wins, three draws, and no losses, achieving a 77.7% success rate. Couto Pereira was inaugurated in 1932 and has a capacity of around 40,000 spectators. The last match played by the National Team at the Coritiba stadium was in 2001, when Brazil defeated Chile 2-0, coming closer to securing a spot in the 2002 World Cup.

The match between Coritiba and Novorizontino scheduled for Couto Pereira in the Série B of the Brazilian Championship will be rescheduled to September 9 or 10. The game was originally set for September 6, which is now the date of the Brazilian National Team’s match.
