From Serie A and C

América Mineiro, Coritiba, Goiás, and Santos competed in Serie A in 2023 and will need to demonstrate good football to return.

On the other hand, Amazonas, Brusque, Operário-PR, and Paysandu came from Serie C. A successful season could be a stimulus for a good performance in 2024.

Debuts

In this edition, Serie B features two debutant clubs: Santos and Amazonas, teams that have had a good start to the season with the runner-up positions in the Paulista and Amazonense championships, respectively.

Good start in State Championships

The tournament will also feature four state champions: Ceará (Cearense), Paysandu (Paraense), Sport (Pernambucano), and CRB (Alagoano). In addition to these, Vila Nova (Goiano) and Brusque (Catarinense) narrowly missed the title and finished as runners-up.

In the Campeonato Mineiro, América-MG reached the semifinals, the same stage reached by Avaí (Catarinense), Novorizontino (Paulista), and Coritiba (Paranaense).

Former champions

Six teams have already lifted the Serie B trophy in previous seasons: América-MG (1997 and 2017), Coritiba (2007 and 2010), Goiás (1999 and 2012), Guarani (1981), Paysandu (1991 and 2001), and Sport (1990).

Aiming for the first Serie A

Amazonas, Brusque, CRB, Novorizontino, Ituano, and Mirassol dream of participating in the elite of Brazilian football for the first time.

As the fifth and sixth placed teams in the Brasileirão Serie B 2023, Novorizontino and Mirassol are looking to adjust the small details that kept them out of the top four and reach the coveted Serie A. Meanwhile, CRB and Ituano finished far from the promotion spot (ninth and 14th places, respectively) and aim for a better campaign this year.

As the champions and runners-up of Serie C, Amazonas and Brusque start Serie B with the confidence of their good performance in 2023.

Objective: improve the placement

Botafogo-SP, Ponte Preta, and Chapecoense will seek to reverse their performance from last season, when they finished at the bottom of the table, and will fight for the top positions in the championship.

Zagallo documentary
